US A380 alloy inches up as margins squeezed further by tight scrap supply

The Platts US A380 inched up a cent on Oct. 5 to 78-80 cents/lb, delivered Midwest, from 77-79 cents on Oct. 1 on reported higher-priced sales. The full range of reported transactions and indications was 76-82 cents. Despite the uptick in A380, one producer said the market needs an 85 cents A380 price, given the high scrap prices. “Scrap is jumping,” the producer source said. “The export market is hot.” He sold A380 this week at 78-79 cents, but with high-grade auto shreds hovering at 55-57 cents, “there are no margins. We are short scrap. Everything has dried up.”
