Gold climbed Monday morning to $1,765/oz, its highest level since October 2012, Commerzbank commodities analyst Carsten Fritsch said in a research note Monday. Rhona O’Connell, head of market analysis for EMEA at broker INTL FCStone, said Monday in a research note that the move in the gold price was similar to last year’s price move. “Gold has now broken out of its triangle formation and pushed up to $1,760 in London this morning before giving back part of its gains just ahead of the COMEX opening (stronger equities on vaccine hopes),” the analyst said.
