Novelis clears last hurdle to buy Aleris as EC approves Duffel sale

London—US aluminum rolled products maker Novelis has cleared the last remaining regulatory barrier to its proposed acquisition of rival Aleris after the European Commission gave the final approval of the sale of Novelis’ Duffel aluminum rolling mill in Belgium, the company said Wednesday. “Novelis has completed the regulatory review process and is now prepared to close the acquisition and begin integrating Aleris into Novelis,” said Steve Fisher, the company’s president and CEO, in a statement.
