London—The European benchmark ferrochrome price has been settled at 101 cents/lb for the first quarter of 2020, down 1% from 102 cents/lb in Q4 2019, South Africa chrome producer Merafe Resources said Monday. Johannesburg-listed Merafe has a 20.5% stake in the Glencore-Merafe Chrome Venture in South Africa — the world’s largest ferrochrome producer — with the rest held by Glencore. The European benchmark is a headline figure, with discount structures negotiated between steel mills and ferrochrome suppliers.
