London—Anglo American Platinum said Tuesday its South African subsidiary Rustenburg Platinum Mines has completed the buyout of the Kwanda North and Central Block prospecting rights in the northwest of the country for Rand 300 million ($19.5 million) in cash from Atlatsa Resources Corporation. “The Central Block and Kwanda North prospecting rights are adjacent to the Mogalakwena mine,” Amplats spokesperson Jana Marais told S&P Global Platts Wednesday. “By incorporating these resources into the Mogalakwena mining right, these lower grade resources can be brought into production as they are unlikely to ever be developed as standalone operations.”
