Washington—US precious metals closed higher Tuesday despite a rally in equities as financial markets continued to eye reports surrounding US-China trade negotiations. COMEX gold for December delivery, the active month, closed $3.40/oz higher at $1,460.30/oz after selling off sharply in late London trading to the $1,450/oz level. The market rebounded in midmorning New York trading and reached the $1,463/oz level just before the close. Analysts attributed the early selloff to positive comments from China’s Ministry of Commerce that trade talks by telephone had gone well and would continue.
