Chile gives green light to Gold Fields gold mine project

Santiago—Regional authorities in northern Chile have approved plans by South Africa’s Gold Fields to begin mining its Salares Norte gold deposit, the company said late Wednes- day. CEO Nick Holland said the company will now begin work on securing financing for the $834 million project and updating the feasibility study in order to make a decision on construction in the next six months.
