COMEX gold futures led the US precious metals complex higher at the start of New York trading as the dollar retreated from early gains against the euro and pound sterling. Gold for February delivery, the active month, jumped $5.40/oz to close at $1,293.80/oz after rebounding from a drop in London trading to the $1,288/oz level. The market rallied for most of the US session until it hit resistance at $1,295/oz in late morning.
