Copper giant Codelco names inside man as new CEO

Octavio Araneda has been named the new CEO of Chile’s state mining company Codelco, the world’s largest producer of cop- per, the company said Friday. The mining engineer will take over on September 1 from Nelson Pizarro following a unanimous decision by Codelco’s board of directors. Codelco said that Araneda has worked at the company for the last three decades, most recently as vice president for southern operations, with responsibility for its Andina, El Teniente and Ventanas divisions.
