GNS Science Update

Over the summer period the Hydrogeology Department had a number of visiting internship students and staff changes. Student Daniel Lower once again joined us from the University of Canterbury for a summer internship where he worked on a range of IT and computer modelling projects. In particular, Daniel developed a smart phone application for the Bay of Plenty Regional Council Earth Beneath Our Feet (EBOF) model. Another summer internship student, Jamie Yule, also from the University of Canterbury, assisted with fieldwork for the DTS component of the SMART Aquifer Characterisation (SAC) program. In January Zara Rawlinson joined the Department as a Geophysicist and will primarily be working on the geophysics component of the SAC program. PhD student Rogier Westerhoff joined the Department in April from the Dutch organisation Deltares, and will be working on the Satellite Remote Sensing component of the SAC program. Jennifer Thorstad-Rose will be leaving to move to the USA with her family in May, and Maksym Gusyev relocated to Japan in February. We would like to wish Jennifer and Maksym all the best for their futures.
