Borealis and UCC Sign JDA to Develop World-Scale PE Project in Kazakhstan

Astana-Borealis and United Chemical Co. (UCC), a subsidiary of Kazakhstan's Samruk-Kazyna, have signed a joint development agreement (JDA) to build a world-scale polyethylene (PE) facility in Kazakhstan. The project will include construction of two Borstar PE units, with a total capacity of 1.25-million t/y, and an integrated ethane cracker. A final investment decision on the project is expected in 2020 and start-up is anticipated in 2025.
