Retail amid Covid-19

There is something of a theme to much of this month's news content...and it is not a positive one.The owner of luxury US department store chains Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman-the Neiman Marcus Group-recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy,as did Stage Stores,which operates US chains Gordmans,Bealls,Goody's,Palais Royal,Peebles and Stage,and retailer JCPenney.It's a pattern we can expect to recur in future months.Temporary closures of bricks-and-mortar stores to supress the spread of Covid-19 have struck another vicious blow to the already weakened retail industry (let's not forget that the collapse of Barneys New York happened way back in December,long before’coronavirus’had been added to most people's vocabulary).
