Asian met coal prices slide; buyers remain cautious

Singapore—Asian metallurgical coal prices in the premium low vol segment edged lower Thursday as an impasse ensues between buyers and sellers. S&P Global Platts assessed Premium Low Vol down 50 cents/mt at $163.00/mt FOB Australia, and the PLV CFR China down 50 cents/mt at $172.50/mt Thursday. Market participants expressed growing concerns over the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the met coal market. However, spot market has different views on prices as an impasse persists between demand and supply factors.
