Turkey's 2019 iron ore import volumes fall, but costs rise

Bursa—Turkey’s iron ore imports fell by 5.7% year on year in the first three quarters of 2019, amid the decline seen in the country’s crude steel output last year due to a slump in steel consumption amid an economic slowdown. Turkish crude steel output totaled 33.7 million mt in 2019, down by 9.6% year on year. In line with the decline seen in Turkish mills' output, the country imported 10.1 million mt of iron ore last year, lower than the 10.7 million mt imported in the previous year.
