Pennsylvania governor rescinds ban on coal mining

Houston—Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf added several subsectors, including coal mining and metal ore mining, to the list of exempted life-sustaining businesses that can continue operations, according to an official statement published late Friday. The governor ordered all non-lifesustaining businesses to close by 8 pm ET Thursday (0000 GMT Friday) due to the spread of the coronavirus, including coal mining. Consol Energy, the largest producer in Pennsylvania, produced and sold 27.3 million st at its Pennsylvania Mining Complex in 2019, the biggest underground complex in North America. The company operates five longwalls across its three mines.
