NLMK targets 3.5% CO2 reduction at Novolipetsk by 2023

London—Russian mining and steel company NLMK plans to reduce Scope 1 and 2 carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions at its flagship mill by 3.5% per metric ton of steel, it said Sept. 24. By 2023 NLMK-owned Novolipetsk Iron and Steel Works in west Russia’s Lipetsk region will reduce its CO2 emissions to 1.91 mt per mt of crude steel, down from 1.98 mt in 2019. This 70 kg CO2 reduction is equivalent to 3.5%.
