Contura Energy to idle coal mines due to coronavirus

Houston—US coal producer Contura Energy will idle most of its operations for 30 days in response to challenging fundamentals, the company said Friday. The Bristol, Tennessee-based miner said the temporary operational changes were needed due to “market conditions, existing coal inventory levels and the recent customer deferrals due to concern around the global economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.”
