US rebar market flat as import offer levels rise

Pittsburgh—Domestic rebar prices remained flat Oct. 30, while import offers moved higher but buy-side interest at the higher levels was limited. The Platts’ weekly Southeast US rebar assessment was unchanged at $595-$620/st, while Platts’ weekly Midwest US rebar assessment was also flat from the previous week at $600-$620/st. At the beginning of October, some market sources had anticipated rebar prices would begin to erode by the end of the month, amid expected downside in November shredded scrap pricing. As expectations for the November scrap buy improved, rebar prices remained largely unchanged through the month.
