Port of Antwerp sees drop in steel, coking coal handling

London—The port of Antwerp, a major steel, coal and metals hub, on Tuesday highlighted weaker steel and auto shipping for a decline in trade in April. A contraction in steel demand and for coking coal and coke, along with stronger renewable energy capacity, contributed to lower coal throughput last month, Antwerp Port Authority said in a statement. “In the case of break bulk, with steel as the most important product, the consequences of the worldwide disruptions in trade have made themselves felt since 2019,” it said.
