London—China imported a record 112.7 million mt of iron ore in July, and imports were 11.8% higher for the first seven months of 2020, according to an analysis by shipping industry group BIMCO. Strong Chinese appetite for iron ore, and rising demand for shipping as a result, has boosted Capesize earnings, which averaged $24,500/day in July, global organization BIMCO said in an Aug.11 report. S&P Global Platts Brazil to China Capesize voyage rate increased to an average of $18.21/mt in July, from $16/mt in June, and less than $8/mt in May.
