Steelmaker NLMK links loan terms to sustainability

London—Russian steelmaker NLMK has moved to link its financing costs to its sustainability performance, as investors and banks worldwide become more conscious of the need to reduce carbon emissions in the steelmaking sector. NLMK said Wednesday that the terms for its Eur250 [$277] million credit facility have been amended to link it to the company’s sustainability performance, which will be measured by Sustainalytics, an Amsterdamheadquartered provider of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) research and ratings. Any change to the ESG rating would result in an adjustment to the credit’s financing costs.
