Singapore—Japan’s manufacturing sector hit its highest in seven months in September, as the sector edged nearer to stable levels, aided by the slowest fall in new orders since January and a bullish hotrolled coil market. The au Jibun Bank Japan manufacturing purchasing managers’ index, published Oct.1, showed that the September PMI firmed to 47.7 from 47.3 in August, but remained in contraction territory. Typically, a PMI above 50 represents an expansion, while under 50 shows a contraction and 50 indicates stability.
