Vietnam's Hoa Phat stalls start of HRC mill over COVID-19

Singapore—Vietnamese steel giant Hoa Phat has indefinitely delayed startup of its new hot-rolled coil mill at its Dung Quat plant in Quan Ngai province, citing the COVID-19 pandemic, market sources said Wednesday. Startup was originally scheduled for April 1. The mill was supplied by Danieli Group, an Italian provider of equipment and physical plants to the metal industry. Due to the pandemic, Italy will remain on lockdown from March 10 until at least April 3. Also, effective March 3, the government of Vietnam has temporarily suspended visa exemptions for citizens from Italy.
