Asian met coal price drops on CFR basis with new booking done at lower level

Singapore—Asia-Pacific metallurgical coal prices on a CFR China basis fell as fresh bookings were done at lower levels in the premium coking coal segment. S&P Global Platts assessed Premium Low Vol coal up 25 cents/mt on the day at $108/mt FOB Australia, and down 50 cents/mt on the day at $118.50/mt CFR China on Aug. 7. In the spot market, a trade was concluded Aug.6 for an 85,000-mt cargo of Australian Premium Mid Vol Goonyella coal at $109/mt CFR China, with a Sept. 16-30 laycan. This sale came with sellers' option to deliver Peak Downs North coal at $107.50/mt CFR China, for the same volume and laycan.
