Jakarta scrap prices continue to rise on tight supply, restrictive regulations

Singapore—Prices for domestic scrap in Jakarta have continued to swell, amid tight local supply and restrictive import regulations, regional sources said. Bids for local scrap similar to HMS I/II 90:10 were raised to Rupiah 4,600-4,700/kg ($316-323/mt) in the week to July 29, up from the previous range of Rupiah 4,400-4,600/kg two weeks ago. Since entering July, prices have risen by a combined Rupiah 600- 700/kg, or 15-18%, S&P Global Platts data showed.
