US plate prices tick up after price hikes by mills

Pittsburgh—US steel plate prices rose slightly on Aug. 27 following hikes announcements by two major plate producers on Aug. 24, as new price levels were still unclear. The daily Platts TSI US plate index was $5.50 higher week on week at $561/st on a delivered Midwest basis, and was $5 higher from Aug. 26. Nucor had announced its decision to implement a minimum base price of $560/st on a delivered basis on Aug. 21. On Aug. 24, SSAB and ArcelorMittal both followed with $40/st price increases, without mentioning target prices.
