Mechel sees mixed impact from pandemic in Q2

London—Russian miner and steel producer Mechel largely maintained its January-June steel output and sales, despite coronavirus-caused domestic demand destruction in the usually active April-June quarter, the company said Aug. 19. Despite a difficult second quarter, which saw a 6% decrease in the company’s steel sales volumes, Mechel January-June increased its overall steel product sales by 5% on year to just over 2 million mt, it said.
