Atlantic met coal prices little changed ahead of earnings season

London—Atlantic met coal prices were little changed on July 28, with the start of quarterly earnings reporting for the US mining sector helping strengthen expectations for future supply. Weaker forward September met coal futures on the day, down 1.9% to $117/mt, put pressure on marking tradeable value, based on indexlinked pricing, common for US export sales. At the same time, worsening coronavirus outbreaks added to concerns that a lift in global steel mill operating rates from the lows in April and May, could be limited.
