CIS merchant pig iron sees new demand from China after holidays

London—CIS-origin merchant pig iron stayed interesting for the Chinese market as a couple of new bookings placed by traders were reported in the week of Oct. 12, amid resistance from the US market. A Russian cargo of 50,000-52,000 mt was sold at $388/mt CFR China to a trading company. Another Russian cargo of similar size was sold, also to a trader, at $387/mt CFR China soon after. Both bookings were position purchases, a market source said. S&P Global Platts weekly pig iron assessment fell $6/mt to $353/mt FOB Black Sea.
