Pittsburgh—Wire rod prices in the US remained flat on Aug. 28 amid improved market sentiment and expectations of firmer scrap pricing for September. S&P Global Platts’ weekly Midwest mesh quality wire rod assessment was $570-$590/st ex-works on Aug. 28, unchanged from the previous week. As the market had been largely supply-driven since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, rod mills were largely tracking shredded scrap prices, according to sources. However, recently improving demand from some end-user markets was heard to be keeping offers from mills firm.
