Rio Tinto to develop Simandou iron ore blocks to meet industry need: executive

London—Diversified miner Rio Tinto’s iron ore blocks at the major high-grade Simandou deposit in Guinea “will be developed...because the industry will need this,” the company’s chief commercial officer Simon Trott said Sept. 30 at the Financial Times’ Commodities Global Summit. Simandou will be developed as complementary to Rio Tinto's operations in the Pilbara and in Canada as steel mills seek highergrade ore as they become increasingly focused on their emissions, Trott said during the virtual event. The company is also working closely with customers on this, he said.
