Turkish mills' Q1 scrap imports up sharply pre-coronavirus

Bursa—Turkish mills’ scrap bookings from their global suppliers rose sharply year on year in the first quarter, in line with the on-year rise seen in Turkish mills crude steel output. According to the latest Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data sent to S&P Global Platts Thursday, Turkish mills' imports of ferrous scrap reached 5.27 million mt in January-March, significantly higher than 3.89 million mt imported in the same period of 2019.
