Black Sea slab suppliers push for higher prices

London—Encouraged by some success in implementing price hikes already, CIS slab exporters continue to test higher offer prices in the Black Sea market, sources reported. S&P Global Platts' weekly slab assessment was $385/mt FOB Black Sea on July 22, up $10/mt on week. A CIS supplier said he intended to raise his new target level to $415-$420/mt CFR Turkey, equivalent to $400/mt FOB Black Sea, following sales of 45,000 mt to various buyers at $410/mt CFR Turkey. According to a Turkish market observer the sale involved a higher grade slab, which warranted a $12-$15/mt premium over standard commodity quality.
