Atlantic met coal market gains on robust demand, tighter supply

London—Atlantic met coal prices rose $3/mt Sept. 24, boosted by strong demand, tighter supply and sustained strength in the Asia Pacific markets. Market participants have been relatively bullish in recent weeks, due to better demand from Europe and India, as well as tighter supply as buyers asked to bring deliveries forward after delaying them earlier in the year. A miner source said he would say demand from Europe and India were both up 25% - 30% quarter-on-quarter.
