Vale settles Q4 Blast Furnace, Direct Reduction Pellet Premiums at $20/dmt and $24/dmt

Singapore—Vale has concluded its term contract negotiations for its fourth quarter pellet sales, a company source told S&P Global Platts Sept. 4. The premiums were settled at $20/dmt and $24/dmt for Blast Furnace Pellets and Direct Reduction Pellets respectively over the Fastmarkets MB 65% index, the source added. In comparison, the premiums for third quarter were at $20/dmt and $27/dmt for Blast Furnace and Direct Reduction pellets. Market sources pointed to pressure on pellet premiums given the strong rally in prices for iron ore fines over the past few months, which was observed for Indian pellet spot sales.
