London—Brazilian miner Vale's met coal sales and production in Mozambique remained weak ahead of maintenance upgrades planned from November, with 809,000 mt sold in the third quarter, 25% less than a year earlier. Vale continued to sell more thermal coal than met coal from the Moatize operation, with nine-month met coal sales at 2.03 million mt and thermal sales at 2.36 million mt, the company said in an Oct. 19 update.
