Turkey's 2019 pig iron imports fall

Bursa—Turkey’s imports of pig iron fell by 5.5% in 2019 to 1.23 million mt, in line with the decline seen in Turkish steel output in the period. Turkey’s crude steel production for 2019 totaled 33.7 million mt, down by 9.6% on 2018, the latest World Steel Association data showed. Turkey's pig iron imports from Russia totaled 750,000 mt in 2019, lower than the 765,000 imported in 2018, while imports from Ukraine totaled 227,475 mt, notably lower than the 343,300 mt imported in the previous year, according to the latest Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data sent to S&P Global Platts.
