elga coal miner powers up toward higher production

Elga coking coal complex in Yakutia, Russia’s Far East, has started introducing powerful quarry machinery with a view to ramp up output following its transition to centralized power supply and away from diesel-driven generation. Elga, part of Russian mining and steel company Mechel, is deploying high-yield mining and conveyor equipment. So far, it has bought a powerful open-mine excavator and the first walking scoop dredge. Elga’s coal washing plant also is now powered from Russia's national grid, a spokeswoman for Mechel told S&P Global Platts Wednesday.
