London—EU carbon dioxide allowance prices rallied 7% to over Eur25.70 per mt Tuesday after the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier was reported saying the UK and EU could still get a deal but need to agree legal details of any deal by midnight Tuesday. EU Allowance futures contracts for December 2019 delivery on the ICE Futures Europe exchange surged as high as Eur25.83/mt ($28.50/mt) Tuesday, up from Eur24.15/mt at the close Monday.
