CSN's mining unit sees Q1 iron ore prices rise 26.3%

The mining arm of Brazil’s CSN saw a 26.3% year-on-year increase in its realized iron ore price in the first quarter of 2019 to $70.6/wmt, the company said Thursday. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the improvement was 12% from the fourth quarter of 2018's $63/wmt. “CSN saw improvement in price and quality,” CEO Benjamin Steinbruch said Thursday in a conference call to discuss Q1 results. “We are full of iron ore stock both in the mine and in the port, due to the good production of the last months. We are looking for alternatives to drain our production."
