Vale’s combined first-quarter shipments and production of iron ore fines and pellets fell year on year by 19.7% and 10.2%, respectively, following the January rupture of the company’s Brumadinho tailings dam, the Brazilian mining giant said Wednesday. Iron ore fines shipments reached 55.41 million mt in Q1, 22.2% below the year-ago quarter, according to company data in its production report. Production in turn, fell 11.1% to 72.87 million mt.
