The East Asia bulk heavy melting scrap market inched lower Wednesday on weaker sentiment in the region and lacking offers, regional market sources said. S&P Global Platts assessed the East Asia bulk HMS I/II 80:20 spot price at $258/mt CFR Wednesday, down $2/mt from a week ago. The lack of deepsea offers in the East Asian region this week was attributed to suppliers perhaps reeling back from prolonged low prices due to weaker mill buying abilities, a regional buying source said.
