China widens restrictions onscrap metal imports from July 1

China extended the types ofmetal scrap it would restrict from beingimported to ferrous and nonferrous material,in what was its latest move to stop being theworld’s dumping ground for waste material.From July 1, imports of eight kinds ofsolid waste, including ferrous, copper andaluminum scrap, were moved to a list ofrestricted waste material, as these wereearlier in the list of unrestricted waste, itsMinistry of Ecology and Environment saidin a statement dated December 25. Thismeans imports of such waste would besubject to government approvals.
