South Korean steel group Posco plans to build a new coke plant in the next few years to support growth in its steel production with output 1.2% higher in the first quarter. Posco will revamp its older Pohang coke works by around 2028, and move onto revamping larger coke units at Gwangyang by around 2038, Weonhui Lee from the iron making research team at Posco told the Eurocoke event earlier this month. Posco expects to build a new coke plant by around 2023, which will provide additional capacity of the raw material ahead of the revamping of existing coke plants, he said.
