Atlantic met coal market still subdued on limited spot demand

London—Atlantic met coal markets saw no change Friday on weak demand and lower price expectations for spot cargoes. Lower Chinese demand for seaborne coals also pushed down values this week. Market sources remained concerned about limited demand, despite seasonality playing a large part. Europe is normally quiet in July and August as steel raw material purchasing typically resumes in end-August and September, just ahead of the Q4 period.
