Scrap holds at down $30 in US Midwest, falls $35 elsewhere

Midwest scrap prices held at down $30/lt while Northeast prices settled down roughly $35-$40/lt and the Southeast market saw price declines of $40/ lt minimum as the January scrap trade drew to a close in the US late Wednesday. The Midwest was the first market to transact on Monday and it did so at $30/lt. “The market just beat me up,” one Midwest supplier said. “It went down $30 everywhere [in the Midwest]. Steel mills wouldn’t let up. It shouldn’t have [gone down as much.] But it did.”
