Primetals invents new direct reduction process for iron ore concentrates using hydrogen

London—Primetals Technologies, a solutions provider for the steel industry, said Wednesday it has developed a new way to prepare iron ore for steelmaking, reducing costs and carbon emissions and will install a pilot plant in Austria with Voestalpine.Primetals has a new direct reduction process for iron ore concentrates not requiring any preprocessing such as sintering or pelletizing, it said in a statement. The process can be applied to all types of beneficiated iron ore and particle sizes smaller than 0.15 mm for all of the material being processed.
