Colombia's coking coal projects target export growth

London—Colombia’s coking coal production rates may increase next decade as additional larger-scale mining projects join established operations and mom and pop miners, according to local developers and traders. Coking coal exports may rise as new larger, single-product export-orientated coal mines develop, supported by new large port terminals such as Puerto Brisa in Guajira. Coking coal may increasingly overtake coke exports. Among coking coal projects moving to licensing and production over the next few years, the Cundinamarca-based Caparrapi mine project is planned to operate as an open pit mine before developing underground resources.
