EU CO2 price to hit Eur45/mt in 2019: Berenberg bank

EU carbon dioxide allowance prices are expected to hit Eur45/mt ($50.71/mt) in late 2019, according to a forecast Tuesday from German bank Berenberg. If borne out, that would represent a near doubling of the carbon price, which stood at Eur24.31/mt at the close Monday for December 2019 EU Allowance futures contracts on the ICE Futures Europe exchange. “The carbon permit shortage is 30% worse than we previously thought,” said Berenberg in a note to clients Tuesday.
