Chinese export hot-rolled coil steel price spreads over imported iron ore and coking coal prices have fallen as a spike in iron ore cut margins, analysis by S&P Global Platts Thursday shows. The Platts China export HRC spread so far this month averaged at $257.90/mt through Thursday, down from $267.50/mt in March. The HRC export spread had risen in March, up 7% from February levels, aided by recovering steel prices in the world’s biggest market.
